Disposable society

We live in a disposable society.

I would not be surprised to learn that you could purchase a disposable version of any product in existence.

This is in spite of all the hooping and hollering done in recent years about our need to cut back on waste. Every year I hope that maybe folks will get a clue and stop making stuff meant to be thrown away, but it doesn’t happen. Every year it just gets worse and worse.

But that’s the natural progression of consumerism, so I shouldn’t be surprised. For consumerism to work, there always has to be something new for folks to buy. And there is no better way to insure that folks will buy your product over and over again than to make it disposable.

But then everything mass-produced today is “disposable” whether it says so on the label or not. Planned obsolescence, anyone?

So in light of the fact that everything is disposable in our society today, is it any wonder that the great majority of people in our society believe that relationships are disposable too?

We certainly see that the world thinks human life is disposable, with the number of abortions/murders being committed. It’s disturbing to even think about, but these little lives are literally disposable–right into the trash can :-((
