Days and months

And in all things that I have said unto you be circumspect: and make no mention of the name of other gods, neither let it be heard out of thy mouth.

— Exodus 23:13

Isn’t it funny that we are commanded not to even speak the names of other gods. Yet everyday we call the names of the days and months by (mostly) the names of pagan gods?

We even call the Lord’s Day “Sunday.” A direct reference to the sun god.

And many of churches hold “Sunday School.”

This is what happens when I have too much time to think on my hands.

Interesting post. I have recently been convicted of calling The Almighty by the generic term “G o d”. He has specific names [such as Yahweh] that He gave us to use as well as Messiah’s name [Yeshua]. So I have been re-training myself to use Their proper names, respectfully of course. :)
I really hadn’t thought much about the use of the pagan gods names, but you are correct, even the names of the months, some planets, holidays and even other religion’s dieties find their mention in our daily duties. Hmmm. Good food for thought.
