Castor oil

The other day an older lady came in the door while I was manning the front check out.

I heard her ask her companion if she would go and get her some castor oil.

And I thought, “Surely we don’t sell that!”

But sure enough, they came through my line she had a little bottle of castor oil.

She said that she was hoping for a bigger bottle, and I remarked that I was surprised we sold it at all.

“Most folks nowadays don’t go for these old time remedies,” I said.

She said she rubbed her joints with the oil, and claimed that it really helped her arthritis.

She said her doctor laughed at her when she told him about it, but became a convert after trying it himself.

I stand amazed in the presence

09/30/2008 at 7:27 am (uncategorized)

This song popped in my mind this morning and I’ve been singing it ever since! Thought I’d post up the lyrics:

I stand amazed in the presence
Of Jesus the Nazarene,
And wonder how He could love me,
A sinner, condemned, unclean.

Refrain

O how marvelous! O how wonderful!
And my song shall ever be:
O how marvelous! O how wonderful!
Is my Savior’s love for me!

For me it was in the garden
He prayed: “Not My will, but Thine.”
He had no tears for His own griefs,
But sweat drops of blood for mine.

Refrain

In pity angels beheld Him,
And came from the world of light
To comfort Him in the sorrows
He bore for my soul that night.

Refrain

He took my sins and my sorrows,
He made them His very own;
He bore the burden to Calvary,
And suffered and died alone.

Refrain

When with the ransomed in glory
His face I at last shall see,
’Twill be my joy through the ages
To sing of His love for me.

Refrain
